On Tuesday, May 4th Cannon Grange #152 will observe it’s 111th Anniversary since its founding in 1899. Cannon Grange was organized by a group of prominent citizens from Cannondale. Mr. Samuel Miller was elected the first Master of Cannon Grange. At that time, Mr Miller was the President of the Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill in Georgetown. At the same time that Cannon Grange was organized as a subordinate Grange of the Connecticut State Grange and of The National Grange, the same residents of Cannondale built the Community Hall which opened on August 9, 1899 and this was the first formal meeting place of Cannon Grange. It has been home to Cannon Grange ever since.
Members of Cannon Grange will mark the anniversary at its regular business meeting on Thursday, May 7th starting with dinner at 6 PM.
New Members are always welcome. Persons who are age 14 years and above are eligible for membership. Annual Dues are $32.50 per year. One time new member fee $5.
Cannon Grange proudly supports the Wilton Go Green Festival and will host a booth at the townwide event on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010. Cannon Grange will help area residents reduce their carbon footprint by giving tips on growing a garden. Part of the immediate benefit will be a free packet of string bean seeds with instructions for planting included. The variety being provided is a grower’s choice, Jade, and matures in approximately 52 days! Children will have fun planting the seeds and watching the plants grow and yield many handfuls of delicious green beans. Adults will have fun, too.
Stop by the Grange booth and say hello to Grange members BillieSue Hollingsworth, John Kriz and Don Offinger!
